14 club hits from the 2010s for your wedding

The 2010s weren’t just the decade of internet trends and spontaneous challenges! Dog filters, ice bucket challenges, and mirror selfies were all the rage. It was also the decade of the music revolution:

the internet, including YouTube and Spotify, completely transformed the music scene overnight. That was also the reason why the music in this decade was so diverse—more colorful than ever before! Indie artists, hip-hop heroes, and EDM producers joined forces and created anthems that not only fill clubs but also provide unforgettable moments at weddings to this day. Yolo!

RIHANNA FEAT. CALVIN HARRIS - WE FOUND LOVE (2011)

No party without RiRi! “We Found Love” was one of the first hits of the decade and is still an absolute guarantee for crowded dance floors, whether in clubs or at weddings. The unique mix of catchy melody, rousing beats, and Rihanna’s unmistakable voice makes this song a true classic. It is always the soundtrack to unforgettable party nights.

DRAKE - NICE FOR WHAT (2018)

The clock reads 2:30 a.m. I’m in the middle of a wedding in the southern part of Cologne. The lights are dimmed, the guests are beaming with happiness. White wine glasses clink, and the dance floor is conquered to the sounds of hip-hop. Suddenly, a guest approaches me and makes a request: “There’s this one Drake song that would be perfect right now.” I briefly consider “One Dance,” “The Motto,” and “Nice for What.” The third one is the choice, and it hits the mark!

“Nice for What” seems to have been made for moments like this. Energetic, smooth rap, Lauryn Hill in the background, and the feeling that everything is going perfectly right now.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop (2012)

As soon as the saxophone kicks in, even Uncle Harry knows what’s up – it’s time for “Thrift Shop.” This song is a powerful, all-generation hit that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is incredibly catchy. Ideal for kicking off your celebration, even if your suit and dress aren’t from a thrift store

FISHER - LOSING IT (2018)

Driving basslines, energetic drums, and a simple but ingeniously worded “I’m Losing It.” This track is the epitome of 100% party. A demolition song that gets almost all generations going. Alongside Avicii’s “Levels,” “I’m Losing It” is one of the biggest festival anthems of the decade and symbolizes the shift away from the main stage big room sound towards house and tech house. Strobe lights on and hands up!

JUSTIN BIEBER - SORRY (2015)

No matter how you feel about Justin Bieber, “Sorry” is undoubtedly a timeless and refreshing pop song that is just as rousing today as it was in 2015. My tip: this mega-hit produced by Skrillex will be with us for the next 10 years.

LMFAO FEAT. LAUREN BENNETT, GOONROCK - PARTY ROCK ANTHEM (2011)

“Party rock is in the house tonight. Everybody just have a good time…” Hardly any other song from the last 15 years works as well at parties as this shuffle song – regardless of country or generation. “Everyday I’m shufflin’.”

CHARLY BLACK FEAT. DADDY YANKEE - GYAL YOU A PARTY ANIMAL (2014)

From 2017 onwards, we experienced a real Latin boom: “Despacito” and “Shape of You” became the hits of the decade and are still in demand and popular at many weddings. As a DJ who attaches great importance to individual track selection, however, it is also important to me to look beyond the charts and play exactly the music that suits you. A perfect example of this is the dancehall club hit “Gyal You a Party Animal” by Charly Black.

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA FEAT. JOHN MARTIN - DON'T YOU WORRY CHILD (2012)

A song that has established itself as one of the most requested hits by my bridal couples and has become an anthem for all progressive house fans. John Martin’s spectacular vocals and the euphoric drop give your wedding a Tomorrowland and Parookaville feeling. By the way, this song works best with a good dose of fog!

SNOOP DOGG & WIZ KHALIFA - YOUNG, WILD AND FREE (2011)

After extended periods of full-throttle partying, I believe it is important to pull the handbrake and give the guests a moment to catch their breath. With “Young, Wild and Free” by Snoop and Wiz, we have the perfect track for exactly this phase, which still keeps the crowd on the dance floor. Two choruses are enough. After that, the mood decides.

CARLY RAE JEPSEN - CALL ME MAYBE (2012)

For me, “Call Me Maybe” embodies the epitome of guilty pleasure feel-good pop – slightly trashy and incredibly catchy. Since the song was played over and over again on the radio and virtually everyone can sing along to it, it’s the perfect choice for the start of the party.

AVICII - WAKE ME UP (2013)

Avicii is undoubtedly one of the most influential and most requested artists of the decade. His songs represent good vibes, positivity, and love, and are often responsible for unique goosebump moments. Other frequently requested classics include “Levels,” “The Nights,” “I Could Be the One,” and “Seek Bromance.”

DISCLOSURE FEAT. SAM SMITH - LATCH (2012)

We come to one of the most requested hits among my bridal couples: “Latch” by Disclosure. The song cleverly combines pop, R&B, and house elements, creating an almost ethereal mood. It’s about the feeling of falling head over heels in love with someone. This song is perfect for the final hours of the wedding!

AZEALIA BANKS - 212 (2011)

This is exactly what it sounds like when Belgium meets New York: electro house beats combined with heavy rap. An exciting change of pace for the later hours, which in my experience works particularly well at international weddings.

ROBYN - DANCING ON MY OWN (2010)

Last but not least, Robyn: When I play for groups who prefer indie and electro, “Dancing on My Own” often elicits cheers from the very first synthesizer notes. By the chorus, everyone is singing along. Honest emotions, pulsating disco sounds, and Robyn’s warm voice merge into a dance floor magnet for the more alternative dance floor.
